17-year-old killed in electrocution incident

A teenager has died from electrocution at Caboolture, north of Brisbane, according to Queensland Police.

Police, ambulance workers and Queensland Fire and Emergency services attended a private property on Tuesday night, along with investigators from Workplace Health and Safety and energy provider, Energex.

While police attended the scene following the call to 000, they confirmed that the incident was not being treated as suspicious and Workplace Health and Safety was the lead agency investigating.

The victim was identified as a local high school captain, Liam Keegan, who was 17 at the time of the incident. There are unconfirmed reports that he was welding at the time.

A WHS spokesman said the investigation was ongoing: “I can confirm the Electrical Safety Office has carriage of the investigation to establish the cause of this incident, but unfortunately, once an investigation is underway, we are unable to comment further.”
