Crane falls at Adelaide high school

Today, emergency services were called to an Adelaide Hills high school after a crane, completing construction work on the school, tipped over.

The incident’s timing could not have been luckier, with students arriving at the school shortly after the fall.

According to witnesses, the crane had fallen into a construction pit where workers are laying the foundations for new buildings. The crane clipped the staff room, but injuries have been reported.

The driver was treated by South Australian Ambulance Service paramedics before being taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital as a precaution.

A spokesman explained that they were working with the education department and the building company to understand the circumstances that led to the incident.

“We are aware there is an incident at the school site,” the spokesperson said.

“Staff and students are safe. We will communicate to families as soon as we’re able.”

SafeWork SA inspectors are at the site.
