Victoria has recorded another workplace death after a worker was killed undertaking mechanical work on a truck in Lilydale over the weekend.
Emergency services attended the scene in the Yarra Ranges around 4:20 on Sunday afternoon.
Detective Senior Constable Andrew Austin explained that the man was completing mechanical repairs on a tip truck when it crushed him. The 34-year-old man was killed instantly.
Police understand that the truck had been positioned in a certain way for the repairs and something ‘had gone amiss’.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are not suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
Under Victoria’s new workplace death legislation, the definition of workplace-related fatalities was expanded on July 1. The death brings the total this year to 42 fatalities in Victoria.
