Building collapse in Sydney’s inner-west

The event occurred just before 12 noon.

According to an NSW Police spokeswoman, “police evacuated the [adjacent] building and a neighbouring building as a precaution. All workers have been accounted for and there were no injuries.”

A spokesman for Fire and Rescue NSW said the incident is “related to the construction next door”, which is understood to be an apartment collapse under construction.

They added that search and rescue dogs were used to clear the site. “They have confirmed that no person is in the rubble, and have given the all-clear.”

“The excavator has gone in now to clear all the rubble from the footpath.”

MP for Canterbury Sophie Cotsis said that the accident was “a massive safety hazard.”

It is believed SafeWork is investigating the incident.
