Victorian industrial business charged over tank ignition incident

WorkSafe Victoria today confirmed it has charged a business that supplies industrial equipment over a serious workplace incident in Derrimut, in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

The company, Fuelcraft Pty Ltd, has been charged with four alleged breaches in total, for breaching the OHS Act, for failing to maintain safe systems of work and one of failing to provide information, instruction and training.

The charges relate to an incident in May of 2019, during which two workers used an oxy torch inside an ISO tank container, but were forced to flee when residual diesel fuel in the tank ignited.
WorkSafe has also alleged that Fuelcraft failed to notify them of the incident after they were made aware that the incident was a breach of the OHS Act.
The matter is listed for a mention in court tomorrow.
