Bundaberg accommodation fined over failing to meet asbestos protocols

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has fined two Bundaberg dentists for failing to meet asbestos protocols.

The two dentists are the trustees of a discretionary trust which owns an accommodation property that provides housing for seasonal workers and backpackers.

During a recent inspection by Workplace Health and Safety investigators at the property, it was found that there was no asbestos register or an asbestos plan in place.

“Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has issued an infringement notice to Haddon Kot Discretionary Trust for not having an asbestos register or asbestos plan prepared, as the persons with management and control of the Bundaberg Palms Motel,” a Workplace Health and Safety Queensland spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said they were also issued with two improvement notices “to ensure this is rectified”.
