Sydney-based tech rolls out real-time air quality monitoring data platform

A Sydney-based start-up is rolling out advanced new technology across mine sites, with a focus on air quality and biometric data.

Co-founder of Industrial Eye, Steve Lewis, explained that the feedback the company recently received at the Australasian Fire and Emergency Service conference was positive, especially from those in remote locations.

“Working in mining poses unique challenges to workers,” he said.

“Heat, humidity and in some cases small and confined spaces in underground locations posing mental challenges are all key factors in safety management.

“Coupled with the remote locations and conditions, the safety of workers is paramount and new technology to help improve the efficiency of safety response is a game changer.”

The technology has the capacity to monitor critical data points, including for the presence of asbestos and silica in the workplace, which remains a major safety concern across Australian worksites.

The tech provides the real-time safety monitoring data to safety crews who observe workers in high-risk situations.

“This innovation is critical to the future of our industry and improves the conditions, keeping workers safe in the harshest environments,” ISH24 director Daniel McMahon said, who was one of the business’ first clients.

“It also provides emergency response a real time advantage never seen before. It is game-changing, life-saving technology in a critical time.”
