Asbestos and mould company fined more than $62k for asbestos regulation breaches

A North American asbestos and mould management company, based out of Marlborough, has been fined more than $62,000 USD for violations of asbestos regulations.

The fines were handed down by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.

They relate to an investigation by the department into work conducted by the business, Soriano Environmental, across three residential properties over two suburbs.

According to MassDEP, who conducted a review of the work, it was found that Soriano had conducted the asbestos abatement work without filing for the required forms and fees.

Following the failure to notify the department, the accused also removed a significant amount of asbestos-containing material than was approved under the waivers for each site.

Soriano will pay $26,100 of the penalty now, while the rest of the fine will be suspended for a year provided there are no further violations.
