WHS Management System Development

A significant improvement to any workplace is the development and implementation of a strategic Workplace Health and Safety Management System. Participation of line management and employees in the development, coordination and monitoring of the safety program initiatives and activities is highly recommended, and can work towards improving engagement levels.

A documented, formal approach ensures legislative compliance, due diligence and risk management, focusing on standards and best industry practices. This will result in the reduction of human injury, property and equipment damage, service interruption, and corporate and individual liabilities, therefore managing overall costs and risk factors.

The components of a safety management system are variable and dependent on what the system manages and intends to achieve. These systems are often complex because they should contain all of the components necessary to cover all issues in the management of a particular site or area.

The scope of the review process and the development of the safety management system is determined entirely by the objectives of the client concerned, and is therefore tailored to their specific needs. Naturally, the objectives must be compatible with the resources allocated.

Identification of the relevant WHS areas of concern through a systematic process and determination of the appropriate action to address those identified concerns, allows for the development of formalised documentation as part of the systems.

The WHS Management System should be developed in accordance with the requirements of the WHS legislation and in consideration of the relevant management system standards. We can develop the identified system “framework” documentation with the supporting forms and tools. With each of the program elements or components there will be recommendations for implementation.

The implementation of a safety management system requires clear procedures that enable all employees to understand the policies and procedures established for the achievement of the safety objectives of the organisation.

WHS Management System Audits

Audits are conducted to determine the effectiveness of management systems; to identify the strengths and opportunities for improvements; and to ensure compliance with the Work Health & Safety Act 2011, Work Health & Safety Regulation 2017, Safe Work Australia Codes of Practice and NSW Health WHS policies and procedures

Independent Safety Risk Assessments

Our WHS Consultants undertake a range of health and safety risk assessment activities to assist your business in identifying task-specific hazards. We work together with your business and subject matter experts to recommend safety solutions to mitigate the likelihood of an injury occurring.

Areas which our consultants specialise in include:

  • Transport
  • Manufacturing
  • Construction
  • Work Processes
  • Office Environments
  • Electrical Installations

Improvement Notice Advice and Support

We analyse all improvement notices your organisation may receive, set out an action plan, send that plan to WorkCover and help you start rectifying the identified problems.

We will communicate to WorkCover on your behalf and ensure the notices are completed within a timely manner. The last thing your organisation wants to do is ignore or forget improvement notices, which can lead to a fine. It can also lead to a prohibition notice being issued.

Take any improvement notices as an opportunity to improve your WHS management system – we’ll guide you through the appropriate changes. If you need, we can take over the entire development and implementation of your WHS system, saving you and your company from unnecessary publication, fines and possible damage to your reputation.

Workstation Ergonomic Assessments

The aim of our workstation ergonomic assessments is to identify potential risk factors for individuals using a workstation and to provide them with strategies to minimise the risk of injury.

An ergonomic assessment involves analysing how an individual interacts with their workstation, their job requirements and the products they are using. We can make recommendations to your employees about posture, rest and stretch breaks etc. We can also provide notice of requirements for special equipment.

Construction WHS Compliance Audits

We can undertake WHS construction compliance audits of principal contractors and projects on behalf of the client and/or authorised people.

Our construction WHS compliance audit is undertaken by a seasoned construction WHS specialist who understands the industry-specific risks and safety requirements.

Work from Home Assessments

Home office assessments are a combination of an independent risk assessment and an ergonomic workstation assessment conducted at an employee’s home.

Additional health and safety information is required for home office assessments to ensure that safety processes are in place to mitigate the likelihood of an injury. Where employees are working from home, it is advisable to conduct a home office assessment to ensure that the work environment complies with the organisation’s WHS management system and WHS legislation.

Outsourced WHS Services

We can be your resident WHS specialist for a fraction of the cost of a full time employee.

If your business isn’t large enough yet to justify the cost of an in-house WHS specialist but you have a commitment to a culture of safety, then we offer a realistic and affordable alternative. For a small monthly fee one of our highly experienced team becomes your resident WHS specialist. They’ll make sure you meet your statutory obligations under the WHS Act (and associated regulations and codes) and keep you up to date with your compliance requirements.

Whatever issues need to be tackled, your outsourced WHS specialist will use their experience and knowledge to provide practical solutions as if they were part of your in-house team. All issues will be addressed quickly to ensure that your workplace safety requirements are met and even exceeded. This means that your business can run smoothly with minimal disruption.

Your outsourced WHS Specialist will assist you in driving a commitment to a safe workplace throughout your organisation including getting involved in your health and safety meetings. Here’s an example of the sort of help they can provide you with:

  • Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems
  • Gap Analysis of existing OHS Policies and Procedures
  • Hazard identification and prevention advice
  • Risk Management
  • Contractor Management Systems
  • Safe Work Method Statement’s (SWMS)
  • Job Safety Analysis (JSA)

Outsourcing your WHS to an experienced consultant can deliver much better results than if you try to implement it yourself or have more junior resources implement projects in house.

Hazard Identification Audits

Our consultants can undertake health and safety audits at your workplace. These inspections are a formalised evaluation of workplace conditions and work practices, documenting and providing advice on compliance with relevant WHS legislation.

We provide comprehensive and reasonably practicable recommendations as part of the hazard identification process and can work together with businesses during the full implementation and review process.

Incident Investigation

If something goes wrong and a workplace incident does occur, the best way of ensuring that it’s not repeated is by thoroughly investigating the root cause and implementing the necessary controls to manage the risk.

You can tap into our qualified investigators to ensure that your incident investigations are both professional and independent of your organisational factors.

Our investigators will discover the initial cause of the issue and allow your business to make changes which satisfy the state regulator, management and employee requirements.
