Two Massachusetts brothers charged with 106 asbestos violations

Two brothers, who are landlords, are facing charges of improperly storing asbestos-containing materials at apartment buildings they owned and targeted for use by college students in Lowell and Fitchburg, Massachusetts.

Christopher and Steven DeRose will both appear in the Worcestor Superior Court for violating an enormous 106 counts of the Clean Air Act for the state of Massachusetts.

The Attorney-General’s office alleges that the brothers, along with four companies in their names, have been “illegally demolishing, stored and transported asbestos waste at apartment houses marketed to college students in Lowell and Fitchburg.”

The allegations come from inspections carried out at four separate apartments and one home, relating to renovation work.

Christopher DeRosa entered not guilty pleas for himself, and on behalf of his New Hampshire companies, Greenscape Property & Building Construction Services LLC and Greenscape Property and Building LLC, for six counts each of violating the Clean Air Act in connection with “illegally demolishing, storing, and transporting asbestos waste at a multi-family residence in Fitchburg.

The pair were indicted on April 7, with Christopher facing 28 counts of violating the Clean Air Act, and his brother Steven was charged with 22 counts.
