Worker crushed at Sydney worksite

A worker has been transported to hospital today after an incident at a worksite in Sydney’s Neutral Bay.

It’s understood that the worker, a 25-year-old man, was injured when a garbage chute weighing 250 kgs fell on him, trapping him underneath.

NSW Fire and Rescue teams, along with paramedics, worked to free and treat the man. He sustained suspected leg, shoulder and rib injuries.

He was transported via ambulance to the Royal North Shore Hospital.

NSW Ambulance Inspector, Dennis Bungener said that bystanders came to the man’s aid and assisted him.

“It appears a chute carrying waste from a construction site had dislodged and fallen on top of the man, pinning him underneath,” he said.

“He was very lucky he didn’t sustain more serious injuries. It’s estimated the chute weighed around 250kgs.”

“It’s an important reminder to take all safety precautions while at work, especially on construction sites.”

SafeWork NSW is yet to comment but is understood to be investigating the incident.
