Worker critically injured in Southern Highlands incident

A worker in the Southern Highlands has been airlifted to a Sydney hospital after a workplace incident at Fitzroy Falls yesterday morning.

The worker fell into a hole more than 7 metres deep, which had been prepared for concreting, and suffered internal and spinal injuries. Fellow workers were able to extract him and NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him at the scene.

The man was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital, according to NSW Ambulance, and staff at the hospital confirmed he is now in a stable condition.

Kevin Milne, NSW Ambulance Inspector explained that it could have been much worse.

“His work colleagues should be commended for extricating him out of the hole before paramedic crews arrived,” he said.

“The patient was lucky not to have sustained more serious injuries.”

SafeWork NSW has confirmed it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
