Worker hospitalised after HAZMAT incident in Bendigo

A dozen people have been evacuated and a woman was taken to hospital following a chemical incident at a workplace in Bendigo, Victoria.

According to an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman, a female worker in her 20s was treated for injuries to her upper body by crews who attended just before 2:30 pm yesterday before being transported to the Bendigo Base Hospital.

The ambulance spokeswoman said it was not yet clear what chemicals were involved in the incident.

Fire Rescue Victoria attended the scene and set up a response area, with a dozen workers evacuated from the site.

The workers did not require medical attention but have been advised to monitor for symptoms in the next few days.

It is understood that a man entered the premises with a baseball bat and was asked to leave, but returned a short time later and sprayed the foyer of the building with an unknown substance.

A spokesperson from WorkSafe Victoria explained that the regulator was looking into the incident.
