Critical incident after fall from ladder

Critical incident after fall from ladder

A worker is in a critical condition in hospital after a six-metre fall from a ladder east of Brisbane yesterday afternoon.

Queensland Ambulance dispatched a team shortly after 1 pm, including a high acuity response unit, to the scene in Capalaba.

The worker was treated by paramedics at the scene and was later transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.

He remains in hospital suffering from head injuries, but reports indicate his condition is now stable.

The incident was the third fall from heights in as many months, and SafeWork QLD has explained that the incidents have highlighted the dangers of falls from height.

“Fall hazards are found in many workplaces where work is carried out at height. The risk of falling is common in the construction industry but may also occur during many other work activities. In managing the risk of falls, the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 requires specific control measures to be implemented, where it is reasonably practicable to do so.”
