Victoria’s workplace safety regulator has issued a report into a recent fatality as it continues its investigations into a fatal incident.
The incident occurred on November 2 at a Yarraville freight depot. A 65-year-old man was directing a co-worker in the reversing of a truck and trailer when he fell into the path of the trailer.
He was struck by the trailer and killed. It is the second fatality this year involving a worker being struck by a trailer in Victoria.
WorkSafe is continuing to investigate the incident.
Six drivers have been killed in separate incidents involving road freight transport in the state so far this year, including single-vehicle accidents and rollovers.
The death of the worker at Yarraville brings the workplace fatality toll to 60 for 2020, four more than at the same time last year. Transport workers are consistently the group of workers most likely to be killed at work, followed by primary producers and those working in agriculture.
