Worker killed at WA strawberry farm

A worker has been killed in a workplace incident at a strawberry farm north-east of Perth, in Bullsbrook.

The incident occurred around 9:30 on Wednesday at a ‘pick your own’ strawberry farm.

Workers noticed a tractor sitting idle in the harvest area and upon investigation, found the worker dead.

Early reports indicate that the man had become trapped in the machinery at the rear of the vehicle, but there were no witnesses to the incident.

Despite emergency services attending the scene, the man was unable to be saved.

WorkSafe WA inspectors are at the site today investigating, and will work with police to determine how the incident occurred.

On average, 41 workers die in agricultural jobs every year in Australia. Of those figures, as many as 75% involve a vehicle.
