Workplace fall from height in Rydalmere, Sydney

A worker is in hospital this afternoon after falling off the roof of a two-storey home in Rydalmere, in Sydney’s northwest.

The tradesman, in his forties, was working on the roof when he fell, hitting the fence that divided the property and that of the neighbours, before landing on a concrete footpath.

A CareFlight Rapid Response Helicopter was dispatched to the scene, landing nearby and specialist doctor and paramedics treating the man at the scene.

The team, assisted by NSW Police, worked to safely extricate the worker, before he was taken to Westmead Hospital, where he is reportedly in a stable condition.

SafeWork NSW has recently completed a blitz on working from heights, explaining that more than 12,000 workers were injured after falling from a height between 2014 and 2017. 25 of those workers died and more than 240 were permanently disabled.

“Falls from heights are a major cause of fatalities and serious injuries at work in New South Wales.  SafeWork NSW inspectors regularly blitz construction sites to check compliance and talk with employers and workers about how to work safely at heights.”
