Workplace fatality at quarry north of Adelaide

A worker has been killed at a workplace incident at a quarry northeast of Adelaide today, just after 9am.

Emergency services workers attended the site at Truro, including police and ambulance workers. Despite the best efforts of the workers, the 29-year-old worker died at the scene.

SafeWork SA and Police Crime Scene Investigators are on-site as investigations commence into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

“SafeWork SA offers condolences to his family, friends and colleagues at this distressing and sad time,” the statement from SafeWork SA said.

“Investigations are continuing and we are unable to provide any further information at this time.”

It comes as the first workplace fatality in the state for 2020, out of 54 deaths nation-wide.

SafeWork SA released information early in March, reminding businesses that they “must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of their workers and others at the workplace.

“This includes providing and maintaining a work environment that is without risks to health and safety.”
