Five workers injured in scaffolding collapse

Five workers injured in scaffolding collapse

Two men have been taken to hospital in a serious condition and three other men have also been injured, after a large amount of scaffolding collapsed a worksite in Craigieburn yesterday.
Emergency services workers were called to the site just after 1pm after reports of workers trapped under the collapsed scaffolding.

In a statement, Ambulance Victoria said it treated five people at the scene, including a man in his 20s and another in his 50s who was taken to hospital in serious conditions.

Three other workers aged between 20 and 35 were transported to hospital in a stable condition.

Marnie Williams, chief of business operations for WorkSafe Victoria explained to the ABC that they had inspectors at that the scene but it was “too early to comment on the circumstances of the collapse”.

WorkSafe wouldn’t make comment about whether it had been in contact with the contractor for the scaffolding. They also explained that it would be a “complex investigation” and that laying charges would take place within twelve months.

The incident comes less than a year after a similar incident at a Sydney worksite killed an 18-year-old worker.
