SafeWork NSW: advice on coronavirus

SafeWork NSW has released advice on the legal obligations of both workers and PCBUs in relation to the recent threat of coronavirus.

“Coronaviruses are types of viruses that typically affect the respiratory tract of mammals, including humans. They are associated with the common cold and pneumonia. A new strain of Coronavirus, known as novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), was recently reported in Wuhan, China. A limited number of cases have been confirmed in NSW.”

Businesses that have direct contact with sick or ill patients/customers should review their infection control policies and procedures and monitor the Coronavirus situation as it develops.

As a worker, you have obligations under WHS legislation to protect yourself and others. Please ensure you monitor your personal health, consult with your treating professional if you are experiencing symptoms and inform your employer of any infection risk to others.

If you believe you are at risk of infection of coronavirus you should raise your concerns with your manager or WHS representative as soon as possible.

If you are not satisfied with the response you may contact SafeWork NSW on 13 10 50 or raise your concerns via the Speak Up platform.
