Formwork Code of Practice: Have your say with SafeWork

SafeWork NSW and the NSW Government is encouraging form workers and concrete construction workers to provide feedback on a draft formwork code of practice, which aims to provide practical guidance for workers and businesses when working with formwork and falsework.

SafeWork NSW Executive Director Tony Williams said the updated Code, which is supported by industry, provides information on how to manage risks in this high-risk industry and provides a framework outlining best practice for businesses.

“More than 6000 people work in the concrete construction services industry and, in this industry, form workers (and other structural trade workers) are twice as likely to have an injury resulting in more than six months off work,” he said.

“Falling from a height is the number one cause of death and permanent disability in the formwork industry. Form workers are susceptible to falls from heights, as well as being hit by falling objects and muscular stress.”

The draft code aims to provide practical guidance for persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) and demonstrate how to manage work health and safety risks related to formwork and falsework.
